Why it is important to celebrate birthdays in care facilities

As older people age, cognitive and physical health can decline. This makes engaging in life and socialising more difficult. This can have a detrimental effect on their mental health and cause feelings of isolation.

A great way of combating this is by organising special events, such as birthday parties. This is a time when family, friends and fellow residents can come together. It is fun for all involved, including the staff. No matter what the special occasion or celebration is, it will have one thing in common, and that will be food. Having a table laid out with party food and a cake just for that person can brighten up their day, week, month…

This is especially important for milestones such as 90th or 100th birthdays. They are a time of coming together and celebrating as a community to mark this treasured time by everyone.
This is why at our care homes we love nothing more than a party, with music, food and good friends. Everyone gets involved and all staff help out. We aim to maintain quality of life and meaningful engagement for our residents by marking special events with a cake, meals and favourite foods.
