30 Mar Let’s get moving
Armchair exercises are great for elderly care settings where residents are unable to stand for long periods of time. They are inclusive and can be done in a large group or on a one-to-one basis.
Exercise in older people helps to improve flexibility and strengthen the core as well as improve mood and mental well-being. Physical activity is also important when you have diabetes and diabetic foot pain or flexibility problems and this shouldn’t keep you from exercising.
Chair exercises improve mobility and help to prevent falls by increasing strength, flexibility and balance.
Keeping fit in later life can help with weight loss or maintaining your weight, reduce stress and anxiety, uplift mood, help you get a better night’s sleep, and build up muscle strength, among many more benefits.
This is why within all our homes we have regular exercise classes with our very own Mr. Motivator. These are low-impact exercises that can help to improve overall health and fitness and build up strength without putting too much pressure on or harming joints. It is great fun and lifts the mood of all our residents that take part.
